AISHE

The All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) is the main source of comprehensive statistics on the Higher Education scenario in the country. It is a mammoth exercise in which data on various aspects are elicited from the Higher Education Institutions of the country in online mode. AISHE 2021-22 is the 12th edition of the Survey, and the second Survey through the Web DCF format. These are very exciting times for the Higher Education Sector, with a lot of new initiatives and improvements ushering in. At this juncture the Report of AISHE 2021-22 is being eagerly awaited for its valuable inputs on various aspects of Higher Education. This Report not only provides a holistic picture of Higher Education in the country, but also growth trends on several parameters, making it valuable for policy making at the Centre and at State levels.

Objectives of AISHE
  • To portray the status of higher education in the country.
  • The survey covers all the institutions in the country engaged in imparting higher education.
  • Data is being collected on several parameters, such as teachers, student enrollment, programmes, examination results, education finance, and infrastructure.
  • Indicators of educational development such as Institution Density, Gross Enrolment Ratio, Pupil-teacher ratio, Gender Parity Index, Per Student Expenditure will also be calculated from the data collected through AISHE.
  • For the purpose of this survey, Higher Education is defined as education, that is obtained after completing 12 years of schooling or equivalent.
