About the Department
Department of Islamic History in Mannaniya College was the earliest full-fledged department, established in 1995-96 academic year. The department is well-known for its academic and extra-curricular activities. The department is conducting various activities and programmes for every academic year. It aims to enhance the subject knowledge, research skills and social commitments of students with interesting programmes, create an atmosphere of academic debates in the campus, aware students and public about the importance of social science, especially Islamic History as academic disciplines and attain in the full swing in
academic, research and extension activities. The students from the department got first, second and third ranks from 1995 onwards. The student also got first and third rank in the academic year 2022-23 and got third rank in the academic year 2023-24. The department produced eminent teachers and academicians and they worked in the different government and aided colleges in Kerala and abroad. The department published a magazine in the last academic year (2022-23) and the work of the magazine of 2023-24 is going on in the last stage. The department of Islamic History organized a monthly lecture series in association with the department of Arabic. It was a part of the initiatives taken by the department to promote interdisciplinary learning among the students. The monthly lecture series was a result of the advices and suggestions acquired from different department level monitoring committee meetings. To guarantee continuous improvement, tutorial and mentoring sessions and regular Parent-Teacher-Student meetings are conducted by the department.
Courses offered
The four-year BA degree program in Islamic History offers a comprehensive study of history, politics, and culture within Islam and Arab Muslim countries. Students explore into different aspects of this exciting field, achieving a deep understanding through a various kind of courses. Students explore into historical methodology, discovering the development of analytical skills. Important components include studies on West Asian History, Islamic Civilization, Human Rights in Islam, Advent of Islam in the Western Europe, Political History of Medieval India, Muslim Organizations and Movements in Kerala, Global Islam: Trends and Movements, Islamic banking and finance, Waqf Management, Contemporary Islamic Movements, Contemporary West Asia in the Global Arena, Islamic Architecture and Development of Administrative Institutions in Islam.
